The beginnings of Constructive Solution can be traced to its founder and President, Dirk Schwalb. In 2001, Dirk received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Honors) in Civil Engineering; in 2002, he received his Masters of Science (M.Sc.) in Construction Management from the University of Birmingham in England. Various internships during his years of schooling took Dirk throughout Europe and Latin America and provided him with valuable international experience.
Coming to Panama
After completing his studies, Dirk relocated to Panama where he began working for a regional government entity, serving as a Technical Advisor and Project Manager for a number of construction projects.
Casa Testa and the birth of a dream
In 2004, Dirk’s dream of starting Constructive Solution took a dramatic step forward when he undertook the restoration of Casa Testa, a 100-year old building in the Casco Viejo district of Panama City. On this ambitious project, Dirk was responsible for all aspects of the reconstruction: renovation, redesign, finish material quoting and purchase, site supervision and budget control. The project was a phenomenal success and Constructive Solution was ready to dramatically enter the Panama City construction scene.
Building on the experience and tremendous success of Casa Testa, Dirk created Constructive Solution in 2005; the company not only represented his expertise as a builder, but it also reflected his strong set of values: honesty, fairness, hard work, performance and a real love for his work.
The vision for Constructive Solution is that of a full-service project management solution for local developers and individuals.
Shaping the future of Panamanian construction
The goals for Constructive Solution are ambitious but simple; the company wants to provide pre-construction consultation, bidding- contract- and budget preparation, onsite supervision, inspection and quality control, budget monitoring and general contractor services where required. This company sees itself as an extension of the home or building owner; by truly understanding the dreams and desires of the owner, Constructive Solution can formulate a plan to do a project with the same care and pride.
In addition, the Constructive Solution team is fluent in three languages; (English, Spanish, and German) this enables the team to bridge the communication gap between foreign investors, locals and the builder. This is more important than just simple translation. Latin America has a tranquil charm and a laid-back manner that makes it an appealing place to live or visit. This relaxed nature, however, can present problems for project schedules and can even have a negative impact on quality if the project is not managed well. Modern building codes are in effect, but official enforcement of them sometimes is lacking. This is a key focus for the Constructive Solution team; we assume the role of quality inspection and make sure that things are done exactly as you would do them yourself.
